We Want Peace (WWP) has a simple goal: To raise awareness on the fundamental principles of justice, equality and freedom for all, through the power of music, worldwide. Spearheaded by the internationally renowned recording artist, actor, author and activist, Emmanuel Jal, the WWP campaign has gone from strength to strength since launching in December 2010. Kicking off the campaign, and in dedication to Southern Sudan’s historic referendum, Emmanuel released what has become the world wide music hit: ‘We Want Peace’. The uptempo feel good classic brings a sense of appreciation and entertainment to the importance of peace and security.

Featuring strings by non other than Peter Gabriel, the song, like the campaign, dedicates itself to the realization that peace, is possible. Sadly conflict is still rife in the region and the route to finding sustainable peace has been extremely testing with millions still being displaced and living as refugees. The national flag of independence was raised on 9 July 2011. WWP Supporters include a variety of high profile individuals and organisations, including Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, Richard Branson, George Clooney, Kofi Annan, former US President Jimmy Carter, Annie Lennox, MC Hammer, Yasir Arman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the Enough Project, Humanity United and many more.

As we look to the future, Emmanuel Jal’s We Want Peace campaign looks set to be bigger than ever, with soon to be announced tour dates, speaking engagements and an exciting new music developments.

In the war-torn region of Southern Sudan, Emmanuel Jal was born into the life of a child solider. Through unbelievable struggles, Emmanuel managed to survive and emerge as a world-famous recording artist. Called an artist “with the potential of a young Bob Marley” by Peter Gabriel, he has performed at Live 8 and Nelson Mandela’s 90th b-day concert. His music can be heard in major motion pictures, TV, and he’s been featured in major outlets like TIME, USA Today, NPR, CNN, MTV, & the BBC. Emmanuel has released five award nominated albums and starred in the major motion picture ‘The Good Lie’ alongside Reese Witherspoon. Emmanual is also a spokesperson for Amnesty International and UNICEF, created the charitable foundation Gua Africa and the social enterprise The Key is E.

Emmanuel has recieved The Dresden Peace Prize, The Mattie Stepanek Peacemaker Prize and been awarded by Ban Ki-Moon at the UN for his peace keeping efforts in South Sudan.
